2024 NBA Draft Lottery Full Results: Atlanta Hawks Receive No. 1 Pick, Detroit Pistons Drop To No. 5

The Atlanta Hawks walked out of the 2024 NBA Draft Lottery with the No. 1 overall pick, jumping up in the order despite having just a 3% chance of landing No. 1. While this year's draft has no prize like Victor Wembanyama awaiting the Hawks, this pick came at the expense of many teams falling down the order.

This lottery had a historic outcome for the Detroit Pistons, who became the first team in history to have the worst record in the NBA in consecutive seasons while receiving the No. 5 overall pick in both years. The team with the worst record in the NBA doesn't fall below the fifth pick in the lottery, so this was another season with the worst-possible results for the Pistons.

The class of 2024 isn't as highly touted, but with these teams finally knowing where they will select, we can expect them to zero in on the future stars they'll select or start discussing trade packages to be executed don't he day of the draft.

Possible NBA Lottery Selections For The 2024 Draft

There is no consensus top pick in the 2024 NBA Draft, so the Hawks have multiple choices. Given how their team is set up, they'll likely go for Alexander Sarr to bring in a long-term replacement for Onyeka Okongwu. 

Teams are expected to offer more top picks to the Hawks to try and land Trae Young, but this No. 1 pick could lead to the Hawks re-tooling their squad on the fly and maintaining their controversial backcourt.

Teams like the Wizards cannot afford to make another major draft mistake, as it could cripple the competitive future of the franchise. The no. 2 pick can be extremely valuable, provided the Wizards target the right prospect. 

The team is in desperate need for better guard play, so they'll have options such as Nikola Topic, Rob Dillingham, Stephon Cassell, and many others. 

The Rockets intentionally took unprotected picks when they traded away James Harden to make up for their lost picks in the Russell Westbrook acquisition, and it's worked out beautifully tonight. 

They're an already competitive group who could have made a postseason push last year but with the addition of the No. 2 pick, the Rockets could entice the Nets into a trade that relives Mikal Bridges or draft a wing like Matas Buzelis.

The trade market is expected to heat up for the 22 teams in the NBA offseason right now. Many teams in the lottery are linked with trade moves including the Hawks and Rockets. 

Most restricted teams can't trade their picks until draft night, so a lot of likely preliminary conversations over trades will take place from now to 26 June when the Draft takes place.
