Christian Yelich answers one tough question on offensive sustainability

Milwaukee Brewers Christian Yelich answers a tough question regarding offensive sustainability (MLB News).

Christian Yelich’s answer to the question regarding the sustainability of this offense was quite honest and it fully encompassed what this year’s squad is all about.  That would be a well balanced team in which everyone knows their role and if someone falters then it is the next man up in order to get the job done.

“We haven’t been, and we’re not one of those teams that’s going to go out and be an offensive juggernaut. But that doesn’t mean we can’t put some runs on the board and do enough to win, play really good defense and pitch well.”

“Whether it’s sustainable or not, we don’t really look at it that way. We just look at, ‘Can we do enough to win that day? What does tonight require of us?’ Everybody takes their at-bat based on the situation, and you [try] to be a productive hitter.”

The Brewers are also using a one game at a time approach and are not getting ahead of themselves.  They are not getting caught up in the win streak and the numbers.  Again it was Christian Yelich providing this information.

“We haven’t worried about how many [wins] in a row it’s been.  It’s just really been about that night, thinking that you’re 0-0 and you have a zero-game winning streak and you just have to play well that night.”

So far this approach has worked well for Milwaukee, but as a fan it is hard not to get caught up in the numbers.  For instance, the Brewers magic number is down to 27.  After missing out on the playoffs a season ago all the focus currently is on getting back into the post season.
